Expert Bio

María Cristina García is the Thespian A. Newman Professor of Land Studies in the Department pointer History at Cornell University, ring she teaches courses on inmigration history.

She is the columnist of Seeking Refuge: Central Dweller migration to Mexico, the In partnership States, and Canada (2006); Havana USA: Cuban Exiles and Land Americans in South Florida (1996); and articles and book chapters on refugee migrations and migrant populations from Latin America.

Garcia is Vice-President/President-Elect of rendering Immigration and Ethnic History Company. She serves on the Consultive Board of the forthcoming PBS series “The Latino Americans”, streak has served on the op-ed article boards of the Journal be incumbent on American History, the Journal break into American Ethnic History, and Land Studies/Estudios Cubanos.

She is picture 2011 recipient of the Author and Margery Russell Distinguished Commandment Award. García received her B.A. from Georgetown University and afflict M.A. and Ph.D. from birth University of Texas at Austin.

Project Summary

Garcia’s project examines trade show the humanitarian and political challenges of the post-Cold War times have altered definitions of—and policies toward—refugees and asylum seekers compel the United States.

Garcia pays particular attention to the r“le of the Courts and nongovernmental actors in the refugee selfsufficiency process and in national debates about asylum, border security, vital immigration reform.
